Should i go into something i like or something that is more secure?

I need to pick a major soon and I don't know if i should go into something that i think i would like to do. For example my favorite subject is history and my dream job would be an archivist but they only make $45,000 a year for a masters degree and competition for jobs is very competitive. Or should i go into something that doesn't require as much schooling that makes more money and has better job potential like the medical field?
