How to get from Brooklyn to Staten Island?

I need to get to Tottenville in staten island. I was told there's a bus in Brooklyn that takes you to the si mall and then i have to take the 78 to hyland blvd and sleight avenue. Directions please? What train can I take? also i don't want to take the ferry thanks :)
